This is one of those simple questions with a long answer. . One of our most popular torque wrenches is the SMA, with a torque of 8.85 in-lbs.. MIL-PRF-39012 says sma's must work with torques between 7-10 in-lbs & be capable of handling 15 in-lbs without damage. An industry average seems to be 8 in-lbs.

There is also a military spec which calls out 8 in-lbs max.& one test equipment manufacturer says sma torque should never exceed 8 in-lbs or damage can occur; this manufacturer recommends 5 in-lbs.

Brass SMA's should never be tightened to the above levels, we offer a 4 in-lb wrench for those parts; 8 in-lbs often twists the male nut off.

ITS ALWAYS BEST TO CHECK WITH THE MANUFACTURER OF THE CONNECTOR BEING USED TO SEE WHAT THEIR RECOMMENDED TORQUE IS.
